Boo Review #9

Location: Cathedral of the Lamb

Haunter: Ecumenically_Spiritual, Type 2 Poltergeist

Pros: Lots of old wood and lovely stained glass windows, simple layout

Cons: Superstitious priest who knows more than a little about binding unwanted spirits, too many people on the holidays

Review: I’m a little different than some of our other members, as I prefer haunting a place that doesn’t get as much foot traffic. I would rather float in brooding silence and think about the life I lived and the afterlife I’m experiencing. This church is a lovely little spot, and there is a lot of character (and stored emotional energy) in its century-old pews and hardwood floor. The many windows look out over a meadow/cemetery on 3 sides and I can often see and communicate with spirits on the othe side of the glass to pass news of the haunting network back and forth. The current staff leave bibles and commentaries open on the podium, which allows me to continue my studies at my leisure (though I don’t think they always appreciate the insights I leave in the margins to improve their weekly messages). He seems to have some idea that I am there and how he can restrict my energy, as his private office has been inaccessible to me for many weeks now and I often feel unable to approach specific parishoners as I have been able to in the past. Holidays feel very crowded and I usually retreat to the balcony during Christmas Eve and Easter services to watch the festivities (and many candles) from afar.

Score: πŸŒ•πŸŒ•πŸŒ•πŸŒ—πŸŒ‘ 3.5/5, would recommend with some caveats.

Boo Review #8

Location: The Kitchen

Haunter: MyNameIsMaggie, Type 1 Ectoplasm/Mist

Pros: A lot of activity to draw energy from, nice smells, constant electrical field from the refrigerator.

Cons: Very limited territory with strong boundaries.

Review: I’m not sure how I got here, really. I used to haunt a field, and then they built a house in it. I spent most of my time by the back door, listening to what was going on inside and drawing energy whenever someone came close enough to the door. I faded in and out of limbo a lot, so I wasn’t always aware of what was going on. one day I faded back in to realize I was inside the house. They built it out to include my area. It was nice to be connected to the family home, and people do spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Sometimes they bring small screens in to watch things on while they cook, and if I focus and build up a lot of energy I can pause or unpause the program at my whim. I’m still working on being able to change what’s playing, as they usually take the screen out of the room as soon as I start interacting with it. I have tried to move through the kitchen into the rest of the house (I can feel that there is at least one other spirit there who might be interesting to talk to, but it appears my boundary hasn’t changed and I can’t really see anything through the doorway as it’s blocked by a strong energy field that just reads as a heavy mist to me. I’ve heard the woman of the house say how odd she thinks it is that the newest part of the house appears to be the most haunted, but I think she just doesn’t understand how haunting works. They have not seen me yet but seem to feel me, especially at night. It can be a little startling when people enter the room, as I don’t often have much warning since I can’t see the rest of the house. I don’t know that I would be able to leave, but I don’t feel much reason to. It’s a nice place to haunt and I’m hopeful I may someday build up enough energy to move into the older part of the house.

Location: 1887 Cameo Necklace, Rhode Island

Haunter: Betty_Davis_Dies, Type 3 Poltergeist

Pros: A truly lovely piece filled with a lot of love and a little delicious angst.

Cons:Β Antique pieces aren’t worn very frequently, so get used to the inside of a pretty velvet box.

Review: What luck to happen upon this gorgeous little piece! I picked it up at an estate sale- mine, actually. We’re allowed to attach to one item, you know, at the end, and I was rather rushed as the vultures who were responsible for my estate began moving things out while my body was still cooling. This was nearby, and I knew they would take some time to catalogue my jewelry collection. I wanted something that would keep me in the room with my body as long as possible, to say goodbye. So I attached to this little thing and I watched and waited. The piece went to someone at auction- I haven’t bothered to learn her name, really. To be fair I don’t think she knows mine either. She wears the necklace on special occasions, like auctions and $500/plate dinners. My tie to the necklace is stronger, of course, because it belonged to me, so I really can’t leave her side when she’s wearing it. That makes for a limited sphere of influence, but I did manage to spill a glass of water in her lap once. She jumped up so fast I very nearly was able to get the necklace away from her . What I would have done next, I don’t know. I can’t move it on my own, except to twitch it in the box a little if she happens to be in the closet at the time. I can feel my tie to it loosening, so it may be an open haunt for another lucky spirit in the near future.

Location: The Curling Queue Salon

Haunter: Alice_G_Spokes, Class 2 Poltergeist

Pros: Familiar and homey. Small enough to cover the whole thing alone. Plenty of gossip to keep you entertained. Proprieter is a willing hostess.

Cons: Perm gasses can make it hard to keep a cohesive form. Some customers should, in this haunter’s humble opinion, NOT be allowed back but are welcomed each week with open arms to ruin the atmosphere with their distasteful auras.

Review: This charming, slightly old-fashioned salon is a great comfy place to catch up on local news. It’s a fairly low-key environment, but don’t for a minute believe that makes it boring. There are a few customers the owner continues to let erturn despite their obvious disrespect for her, the other customers, and the establishment itself. At least one of them can see and/or feel you, so watch out for her. She is no nicer to the dead than the living. Heads up that on Saturday nights the owner hosts seances with some of her regular customers and it can get a little crowded but makes for a good party if you’re the outgoing type. They seem to appreciate some classic knocks, silhouettes in the mirror, etc. It’s a fun gig, if you don’t take yourself too seriously.

Location: Carnival Carnivale

Haunter: ghost_boy3769, Class 3 Interactive

Pros: Great ambience, big crowds (sometimes), good snacks.

Cons: Long off-season, too many seagulls.

Review: This location has it all: old-fashioned fun and games, lots of mechanics to mess with, and (seasonally) lots of people to follow, watch, listen to, and interact with. Stroll the causeway and play games with the patrons, helping them win or lose at your preference. Listen to conversations more or less private to others. Watch families, lovers, children, old men, and young women and gather all the energy you could ever dream to find. Rumors of its haunting appear to be rampant among the living community, and some people seem to go there with the express purpose of having a ghostly encounter. This can be fun to oblige if you’re in the mood, and I’ve sent several guests home with delightfully shivery tales with which to regale their friends and family. Beware, though, that when the weather turns cold they shut down most of the attractions and you will not see anyone for days, weeks, or even months at a time. The area is connected to several piers, where you can usually find at least one errant stroler or, if you’re lucky, a couple on a romantic walk for a quick fix when you need one. Proximity to the coast does mean you’ll get a lot of strong breezes, particularly during the off season, and you’ll need to be fairly adept at anchoring your energy to stay here for any length of time. Watch out for the seagulls- they can all see you and they love nothing more than to make a game out of darting through your energy to get a lift of their own. It’s very draining. Overall, this is a once in a deathtime experience that everyone should take advantage of whenever they can. I try to spend a few months here every decade or so- it’s very refreshing.

Location: 1947 Ferrari 125 Sport

Haunter: vroom_daddy_01_01, Class 3 Poltergeist

Pros: Beautiful car, kept in great repair. Driven frequently enough by the owner to have some fun.

Cons: He loves to go through the car wash. No power steering, which makes it a little hard for those of us without corporeal form to drive.

Summary: This has GOT to be the sweetest ride I’ve ever taken. If i hadn’t been sent away by some serious sage last week, I would have stayed forever. Even if you don’t cause any…trouble, it’s fun to just enjoy the ride. Highly recommend for any fellow gear heads. As a bonus, he has a well-stocked garage/shop you can hang out in between drives. Beware of his propensity to take it through the car wash, though. Sometimes you do NOT get enough warning to get out before the waterΒ  comromises your ability to remain cohesive. If you want to spend eternity in the warm leather embrace of classic custom seats and listening to the hum of a well-maintained engine, this is the spot for you. Watch out for causing too much mischief. His wife is a mystic who will NOT be shy about routing you out, and she knows what she’s doing.

Location: Cozy Reads Bookshop

Haunter: maggie_mo_reads, Type 1 Interactive Personality

Pros: Lots of great titles! Spooky little nooks and crannies, many customers whose shoulders you can read over.

Cons: Most of the books are too heavy with spells for spirits to lift. You will be bored if you don’t have anΒ  magic or mid-century mysteries.

Review: Few if any suspect this charming, cozy, normal-seeming bookshop to be the largest collection of magical books on the haunting network, maybe in the entire world. This is both good and bad. Good, because a lot of the books are very interesting and you can learn a thing or two about how to control your manifestation if you put your mind to it. Bad because, as you know, magic is hard for ghosts to work around. You will need an obliging human to access theseΒ  titles with any regularity. That being said, there is an unrivaled Agatha Christie collection to keep you busy between magic-minded customers.

Location: Branbury Mansion

Haunter: ghost_boy3769 (Class 3 Interactive)

Pros: A lot of small closed-off rooms, very squeaky floorboards, (especially near the stairs), creaky doors to slam.

Cons: No curtains to billow mysteriously with no breeze, a LOT of mice, no one lives there anymore.

Review: At first glance, this seems like a haunter’s paradise. A big, mysterious looking old mansion on the top of a tall hill, on the outskirts of a small town with an above-average superstitious population. People EXPECT it to be haunted. It seems a waste not to oblige. Beware, however, that no one lives here anymore and your only visitors will be teens seeking a secluded location to spend some time…alone, ghost hunting crews, and the occasional child who has been dared by theirΒ  friends into a show of bravery. If you require human contact to build energy, you will spend much of your time here at rest as you will have no one to boost you consistently enough. If, however,Β  you are seeking solitude and can maintain your form without supplemental energy, this may be a good vacation spot for you. I would not recommend long term stay, as you may forget yourself and either cross over or disintegrate into the void. TL,DR: A nice quiet place to be with your thoughts but devoidΒ  of consistent meaningful interaction. Not recommended for long term stay.
