December Daily Blog Challenge

Pop-Up Post: Scrooge in Rehab

{December Daily Blog Challenge, Day #4: Your Favorite Christmas Song}

I worked at Home Depot for a couple of years after college.

(Let me rephrase that: I worked retail for awhile, including a couple of holiday seasons.)

The above information should make what follows unsurprising:

  1. My innate creativity often finds vent through DIY home projects.
  2. I spent those two years and about three more afterward absolutely hating Christmas music. Close to 40 hours a week of the same 20 or so Christmas songs- many of them ridiculous- beginning just before Halloween and lasting nearly til the New Year will do that to a person. Or at least to this one.

I’ve somewhat recovered over the last few years, which means that today’s challenge is easier than it would have been half a decade or so ago.

Much like the question of a favorite Christmas movie, this one is tough for me. There are a handful of songs I look forward to this time of year (and may even find myself humming in different seasons).  The one I would identify as my favorite if forced (and today I am) is probably one from the Muppet Christmas Carol (of all places) called It Feels Like Christmas:

It’s in the singing of a street corner choir
It’s going home and getting warm by the fire
It’s true, where ever you find love, it feels like Christmas

A cup of kindness that we share with another
A sweet reunion with a friend or a brother
In all the places you find love, it feels like Christmas

It is the season of the heart
A special time of caring
The ways of love made clear
It is the season of the spirit
The message if we hear it
Is ‘Make it last all year’

It’s in the giving of a gift to another
A pair of mittens that were made by your mother
It’s all the ways that we show love that feel like Christmas

A part of childhood we’ll always remember
It is the summer of the soul in December
It’s when you do your best for love, it feels like Christmas

It is the season of the heart
A special time of caring
The ways of love made clear
It is the season of the spirit
The message if we hear it
Is ‘Make it last all year’

It’s in the singing of a street corner choir
It’s going home and getting warm by the fire
It’s true, where ever you find love, it feels like Christmas

It’s true, where ever you find love
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas

What’s your favorite Christmas song? When do you think it’s ok to start listening to Christmas music (I’m a strict not-til-after-Thanksgivinger myself)?
